Building a house at a distance (actually 1,700 kilometers away) requires patience and flexibility in relation to building meetings, language barriers and cultural differences. A special challenge is that parts of Piemonte are under UNESCO protection. Therefore, there are many restrictions regarding the materials that may be used for the exterior construction. We have chosen to build the house partly in old recycled materials and we think this will add a lot of charm to the house.
Therefore, the summer holidays 2019 were spent partly on the construction site and partly in various meetings with window manufacturers and carpenters – and at the lumber yard.
It is wonderful to see how the old Italian craftsman traditions hold true. Never before have we seen ceiling beams in solid wood with a diameter of 40 cm. Now we are looking forward to the wood construction being installed – and while we wait, the basement and swimming pool are cast.
And how to end such a working holiday …… Of course with Pizza and Barbera on the “terrace” with the beautiful view of vineyards and the French Alps in the background.
